For my final senior project, I primarily focused on hanji. My painted works mostly composed of hanji—handmade Korean traditional paper—depict objects representing my journey of coming to peace with my move to America. They acknowledge the pain that comes with cultural and social challenges through colors that may evoke bruises and blood stains. However, they do not dwell on these experiences in bitterness but instead shed light on the meaning of self-transformation and evolution. Delicate yet durable, hanji conveys the fragile yet enduring quality of living while representing the Korean roots I have held onto despite cultural challenges.
